Pakistan Extends Airspace Restrictions on Indian Aircraft Until August 24
July 18, 2026
Pakistan has extended restrictions on the use of its airspace by Indian aircraft until August 24, 2026, according to a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).
The restriction, which has been in effect since April 23, 2025, applies to Indian-registered aircraft, airlines based in India, and aircraft operated by Indian carriers under lease arrangements.
New NOTAM Issued
The latest NOTAM extends the existing restrictions for another month. The previous notification was scheduled to expire on July 24, 2026, before the government approved a further extension.
The Pakistan Airports Authority said the updated notice was issued in accordance with government directives.
Background
The airspace restrictions were introduced in April 2025 following heightened tensions between Pakistan and India. Since then, both countries have maintained restrictions affecting each other’s airlines.
Pakistan and India have previously implemented similar airspace measures during periods of heightened bilateral tensions, including in 1999 and 2019.
Impact on Aviation
The continued restrictions require airlines to adjust flight routes where necessary, which can affect travel time and operating costs for some carriers.
The latest extension means the current airspace restrictions will remain in force until August 24, 2026, unless revised by the relevant authorities.
