Maryam slams reserved seats ruling, accuses SC judges of ‘rewriting Constitution’

Maryam Nawaz Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Complete Five-Year Term Despite Challenges

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed on Friday that the government will complete its five-year tenure despite attempts to disrupt its functioning.

Supreme Court Ruling: Expressing surprise at the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on reserved seats, Maryam Nawaz questioned the legitimacy of reinstating individuals she described as “criminals of the nation.” She criticized the judges for allegedly rewriting the Constitution to facilitate the return of one individual, urging them to allow the country to function properly. Maryam emphasized that decisions should be based on the Constitution rather than personal conscience.

Court Directive Criticism: Maryam condemned the court’s directive for individuals to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) within 15 days, arguing that it granted requests that were not made. She also criticized the return of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), noting that the person responsible is currently serving a prison sentence in Adiala Jail. She questioned why the court overlooked the damage caused, including attacks on memorials to martyrs.

Government Stability: The CM urged that the government, which is working to stabilize the country, should be allowed to continue its efforts and called on the public to remain vigilant against further disruptions.

Economic Challenges: Speaking at an event in Lahore, Maryam acknowledged the challenge of reversing rising inflation and praised Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his tough decisions in addressing the economic crisis. She pointed out that the government inherited a declining economy rather than a thriving one and vowed to take all necessary measures to improve the situation.

Solar Project Initiative: Maryam announced a major initiative, highlighting that Punjab is set to launch Pakistan’s largest solar project, which will provide free solar power to households consuming up to 200 units of electricity. She assured the nation of her administration’s commitment to diligently serving the country throughout their term.

Final Statement: “The government will complete its five-year term. Any attempts to disrupt its functioning will be met with strong resistance,” stated Maryam.
