Suthra Punjab Workers Stage Protest in Nankana Over Delayed Salaries
Workers employed under the Maryam Nawaz-led Suthra Punjab program staged a peaceful protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nankana Sahib over delayed salary payments.
According to reports, sanitation staff, including women workers and supervisors, gathered outside the office carrying cleaning tools such as brooms, shovels, and buckets while demanding the release of their pending wages ahead of Eid.
The workers claimed that some employees had not received salaries for up to four months, while others were still waiting for payments for the past two months. They urged the administration to ensure timely disbursement of salaries so they could manage household expenses.
The protesters appealed to Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tasleem Akhtar Rao to take immediate steps for payment of outstanding wages.
During the demonstration, workers raised slogans in support of the provincial leadership while also highlighting the financial hardships caused by the delay.
The protest remained peaceful, and the workers later dispersed after expressing their concerns to the authorities.
