The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking a new head coach for the national men’s cricket team following a series of disappointing performances in major international tournaments.
This marks the seventh coaching change in two years, highlighting ongoing instability in the team’s leadership.
Aaqib Javed, a former fast bowler and the most recent interim head coach, assumed the role in November 2024 after Gary Kirsten’s resignation. Javed’s tenure was initially set to last until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, following the team’s underwhelming performance in the tournament, where they failed to secure a single victory, the PCB decided not to extend his contract .PCB+4Pakistan Today+4The News International+4The News International
In addition to the head coach position, the PCB has advertised the role of Director of High Performance Centres, a position that became vacant after Nadeem Khan’s resignation in March 2025. This move indicates the board’s commitment to strengthening the infrastructure and development programs for players.
The PCB’s frequent changes in coaching staff and leadership have been attributed to a lack of continuity and strategic planning. The board’s approach to leadership transitions has often been influenced by administrative changes, including shifts in chairmanship and selection committees, leading to a cycle of instability that has affected the team’s performance.
As the PCB searches for a new head coach, the focus is on finding a candidate who can provide consistent leadership and help rebuild the national team’s competitive edge on the international stage.
