35 Farmers Selected Under Punjab’s Rs. 7 Billion Mini-Dam Project

  October 9, 2025 |

The Punjab government has taken another step toward sustainable agriculture in the Potohar region, as 35 farmers from Attock district have been selected under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Rs. 7 billion Agricultural Transformation Plan (ATP) for the construction of mini-dams.

Farmers Selected Through Transparent Balloting

The Punjab Agriculture Department conducted a balloting ceremony where 35 successful applicants were chosen from 168 entries. The event was chaired by MPA Nawabzada Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan, who praised the initiative for addressing long-standing water scarcity issues in the region.

According to official details, the selected farmers include:

  • 8 farmers from Attock Tehsil

  • 9 farmers from Fateh Jang

  • 9 farmers from Pindigheb

  • 10 farmers from Jand

Punjab’s Mini-Dam Initiative

Under the Agricultural Transformation Plan, the Punjab government will provide a 70% subsidy for the construction of 400 mini-dams across the Rawalpindi Division over the next three years.

  • 100 dams will be completed in the first year.

  • 150 dams each will follow in the next two years.

This project aims to conserve rainwater, promote efficient irrigation, and transform barren lands into fertile fields — directly benefiting local farmers and ensuring long-term agricultural productivity.

Boosting Agricultural Growth and Farmer Welfare

Speaking at the ceremony, MPA Sher Ali Khan emphasized that agricultural development and farmer welfare remain top priorities for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

“For years, farmers in Potohar have faced severe water shortages. The Chief Minister’s mini-dam project fulfills a long-awaited demand and will strengthen the agricultural backbone of the region,” he said.

He also mentioned other key initiatives by the Punjab government, including the Kisan Card Program offering interest-free loans and the Green Tractor Scheme providing subsidized tractors to farmers.

Turning Vision Into Reality

“These mini-dams will not only help farmers store water but also promote high-value crops, ensuring sustainable growth and increased income for rural communities,” Sher Ali Khan added.

The event was attended by Additional Director General Soil Conservation Dr. Parvez Sikandar, Director PMU Muhammad Irfan Man, Director Soil Conservation Rawalpindi Atiqur Rehman, senior Agriculture Department officials, and a large number of local farmers.
