Pakistan Cricket Team Fined 20% of Match Fee for Slow Over-Rate in First ODI

 November 13, 2025

The Pakistan cricket team has been fined 20 percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. Match officials determined that Pakistan were four overs short of the required rate after considering all time allowances.

According to ICC regulations, teams are penalized five percent of the match fee for each over not bowled in the allotted time. With a four-over deficit, Pakistan incurred a total deduction of 20 percent. While the penalty does not affect the match result, it will be recorded against the team’s over-rate record and could influence future disciplinary actions.

The slow over-rate not only cost the players financially but also put the team at a tactical disadvantage. During the final four overs of Sri Lanka’s innings, Pakistan were forced to field with one fewer fielder outside the 30-yard circle, as per ICC rules.

Despite the setback, Pakistan held their nerve to secure a thrilling six-run victory, defending their target of 300 in a tense finish at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

The second ODI of the three-match series will now be played on Friday, November 14, also in Rawalpindi, following a minor schedule adjustment due to security concerns. Authorities have confirmed that all issues have been resolved, and the series will continue smoothly as planned.

With Pakistan leading the series 1-0, fans will be eager to see if the Men in Green can maintain their winning momentum — and improve their over-rate discipline in the upcoming matches.
