The Rawalpindi Education Department has introduced a revised age policy for admissions in government schools, outlining specific age requirements for each class level.

Officials say the new guidelines aim to standardize student enrollment across all government institutions. However, the revised policy comes at a time when admissions in public schools are already experiencing delays and slower enrollment rates.

Under the updated structure, minimum age requirements have been clearly defined from early childhood classes up to secondary education. For example, younger classes such as early childhood education require lower age limits, while higher classes, including secondary levels, require older age brackets in line with academic progression.

Authorities have also confirmed that students must meet a minimum age requirement before appearing in board examinations for higher grades, including Grade 9 registration.

Education officials have advised parents to carefully follow the new age criteria when applying for admissions to ensure compliance with the updated rules and to avoid enrollment issues.

The policy is expected to bring uniformity in school admissions across government institutions, although concerns have been raised about its potential impact on overall enrollment trends in public schools.
