Huawei Launches “Passport-Style” Foldable Phone Ahead of Samsung and Apple Rivals
Huawei has unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Pura X Max, a larger and more advanced version of its Pura X series. The device introduces a new “passport-style” foldable design that sits between traditional flip phones and book-style foldables.
The company says the new model is aimed at improving usability with a bigger display, slimmer build, stylus support, upgraded cameras, and a larger battery.
Display and Design
The Huawei Pura X Max features a 5.4-inch cover screen and a 7.7-inch internal folding display. Compared to its predecessor, the device is larger but slimmer, offering a more refined folding experience.
The inner display uses a high-resolution LTPO OLED panel with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz for smoother visuals and better power efficiency. The outer screen also supports the same advanced display technology.
Huawei has also introduced support for its M-Pen stylus, allowing users to write and draw directly on the foldable screen. The device is built with an aluminum alloy frame and is rated for dust and water resistance, making it more durable for everyday use.
Performance and Software
The device is powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 9030 Pro chipset and runs on HarmonyOS. The company claims improved performance compared to previous models, along with enhanced cooling for better stability during heavy use.
Camera System
The Pura X Max features a triple rear camera setup, including a high-resolution main sensor, a telephoto lens with optical zoom, and an ultra-wide camera. Huawei has focused on improving low-light performance and zoom quality through its XMAGE imaging system.
Two front-facing cameras are included for selfies and video calls, one on each screen.
Battery and Charging
The phone is equipped with a large battery supporting fast wired and wireless charging, along with reverse charging options for powering other devices.
Price and Availability
In China, the device starts at around $1,615, with higher storage variants priced above $2,000. Global availability has not yet been announced.
The launch positions Huawei as a strong competitor in the foldable smartphone market, where it continues to challenge major players like Samsung and Apple with innovative designs.
