Punjab Issued Heatwave Alert as Temperatures May Reach 48°C
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for June 8 to June 12, warning of a significant rise in temperatures across the province.
According to the PDMA, temperatures in Punjab are expected to remain 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal during this period.
In Upper Punjab, temperatures may range between 41°C and 44°C, while South Punjab could experience extreme heat between 44°C and 48°C. Lahore and surrounding districts are also expected to face intense heat conditions.
Officials have cautioned that unusually high temperatures may continue during both day and night, along with the possibility of dust storms and strong winds in some areas.
Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to stay on high alert and ensure necessary precautionary measures are implemented in accordance with government guidelines.
PDMA Director General Umar Javed stated that emergency arrangements should remain in place to deal with possible heat-related situations, including heatstroke cases and water shortages.
The authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak hours, especially from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and to maintain adequate hydration.
Special precautions have also been recommended for children, women, and elderly citizens, who are more vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.
