Punjab Government Announces Heatwave Relief Measures Across the Province

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all relevant departments and district administrations to take immediate steps to provide relief to citizens amid ongoing heatwave conditions and rising temperatures across the province.

According to official instructions, authorities have been asked to establish temporary shade facilities and rest areas at major roads, markets, intersections, and public gathering points to help people stay protected from extreme heat.

The chief minister also ordered the provision of cold drinking water, fans, and cooling facilities at public transport terminals, bus stands, railway stations, and government offices to improve public comfort during the summer season.

Special attention has been directed toward vulnerable groups, including children, senior citizens, and women, who are considered more susceptible to heat-related illnesses. Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak daytime temperatures.

Educational institutions running summer camps have been instructed to ensure adequate arrangements for drinking water, ventilation, fans, and cooling equipment to safeguard the health of students and staff.

In addition, traffic management authorities have been advised to minimize unnecessary delays for motorcyclists during extreme weather conditions. Officials have been directed to facilitate smooth traffic flow and avoid making commuters wait for extended periods under direct sunlight.

The measures are part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to reduce the impact of the ongoing heatwave and promote public safety during the hot summer months.

Health experts continue to recommend staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and seeking medical assistance if symptoms of heat exhaustion or heatstroke occur.
