Brooks Koepka Shares Canadian Open Lead After Late Birdie Surge

Brooks Koepka surged into a share of the lead at the RBC Canadian Open after a strong late finish in the opening round at TPC Toronto in Caledon, Ontario.

Koepka carded a 6-under 64, highlighted by a remarkable run of four birdies over his final five holes. His late momentum helped him join a group of six players at the top of the leaderboard.

The American golfer, a two-time U.S. Open champion, found his rhythm on the back nine after a steady start. A key moment came at the 14th hole, where he sank a long birdie putt to spark his finishing stretch.

He continued the charge with further birdies at the 17th and 18th holes to close his round strongly.

Several players also matched Koepka’s opening score, including Emiliano Grillo, Sahith Theegala, Eric Cole, Sam Burns, and Canadian Matthew Anderson, who all posted 64s in the first round.

Koepka noted that while his overall ball striking was not at its best, his putting made the difference as he gained confidence late in the round.

With the tournament still in its early stages, the leaderboard remains tightly packed, setting up an exciting battle in the rounds ahead.
