San Jose Sharks Acquire Defenseman Michael Kesselring in Trade with Buffalo Sabres
BUFFALO: The Buffalo Sabres have traded defenseman Michael Kesselring to the San Jose Sharks in a deal involving a first-round draft pick swap.
Under the agreement, Buffalo sent the 26-year-old Kesselring along with the 27th overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft to San Jose in exchange for the 20th overall selection.
Trade Details
- To San Jose Sharks: Michael Kesselring + 27th overall draft pick
- To Buffalo Sabres: 20th overall draft pick
The move gives both teams different positioning in the early rounds of the NHL Draft.
Kesselring’s Career Overview
Buffalo originally acquired Kesselring in 2025, expecting him to strengthen their defensive depth with size and physical presence.
However, his impact was limited due to injuries. He recorded two assists in 34 games and appeared briefly in the playoffs.
Over his NHL career, Kesselring has played for Arizona, Utah, and Buffalo, recording 12 goals and 43 assists in 190 games.
Sharks’ Perspective
Sharks management described Kesselring as a reliable two-way defenseman with size and defensive awareness, expected to add depth to their blue line.
General Manager Mike Grier said the team believes he can contribute both defensively and offensively when fully fit.
