Wuhan Open Qualifiers: Yao Pengcheng Extends Winning Streak
Yao Pengcheng continued his impressive start to the snooker season by securing qualification for the final stages of the Wuhan Open with a dominant performance in the qualifying rounds.
The 29-year-old Chinese player defeated Jack Lisowski 5-0, recording breaks of 108, 52, 53, 57, and 106 in a highly efficient display. The victory marked Yao’s sixth consecutive win of the season and secured his place in the tournament scheduled to take place in Wuhan later this year.
Yao has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, having already won three qualifying matches last week to book a spot in the China Open.
Elsewhere, Gary Wilson edged past Aaron Hill in a closely contested 5-4 encounter. Wilson recovered from a 3-1 deficit and produced an impressive clearance in the deciding frame to complete the comeback.
Steven Hallworth continued his good form by defeating Zhang Anda 5-4. The Englishman recorded a century break of 100 and followed up on his earlier success against former world champion Luca Brecel.
Daniel Wells also impressed, compiling a break of 117 during a comfortable 5-1 victory over Stuart Bingham.
In other qualifying matches, Dylan Emery registered breaks of 104 and 90 on his way to a 5-3 win over Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, while Stephen Maguire secured a 5-2 victory against Stan Moody.
Chang Bingyu completed a strong comeback after trailing 2-0, winning five consecutive frames to defeat Joe O’Connor 5-2 and advance to the next stage.
The qualifying competition continues as players battle for places in the final stages of the Wuhan Open, one of the key events on the professional snooker calendar.
