Senate Committee to Pursue Legal Action Over Private Schools’ 10% Admission Quota

Senate Committee to Pursue Legal Action Over Private Schools’ 10% Admission Quota

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training has announced plans to pursue legal action against private schools that do not implement the required 10% admission quota for deserving and underprivileged students.

Committee Chairperson Senator Bushra Anjum Butt said the decision follows continued resistance from some private educational institutions regarding the quota policy.

Senate Committee Vows Legal Battle

Speaking on the issue, Senator Butt said the committee had directed private schools to enroll eligible students under the mandatory quota. However, she stated that several schools obtained a court stay order after the directive was issued.

According to the senator, the committee remains committed to pursuing the matter through all available legal avenues.

“We instructed schools to admit deserving students, but they secured a stay order from the court,” she said, adding that the committee would continue to pursue the case through the legal process.

Call for Greater Social Responsibility

Senator Butt emphasized that private schools operating in Pakistan should contribute to society by providing educational opportunities to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

She said institutions benefiting from the country’s education sector also have a responsibility to support access to quality education for deserving children.

Debate Over the 10% Quota Continues

The policy requiring private schools to reserve 10% of admissions for underprivileged students has remained a subject of debate for several years.

While education authorities view the quota as an important step toward improving educational access, some private schools argue that implementing the policy places additional financial pressure on their institutions.

Legal Dispute Expected to Continue

The Senate committee’s decision to actively challenge the court stay order marks a new phase in the ongoing dispute between regulators and private educational institutions.

The outcome of the legal proceedings could play a significant role in determining how the admission quota policy is implemented in the future and may influence broader discussions on equal access to education across Pakistan.
