Heavy Rain Causes Major Flight Disruptions at Islamabad International Airport
Continuous rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has led to significant disruptions at Islamabad International Airport, causing multiple flight delays and cancellations on both domestic and international routes.
According to airport authorities, several flights were affected due to adverse weather and reduced visibility. British Airways flight BK2160 experienced a delay of three hours, while a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight to Dubai was postponed by one hour. A private airline’s service to Karachi was delayed by two hours. Flights heading to Jeddah, Doha, Muscat, Riyadh, Baku, and Dubai faced delays of up to an hour.
The airportβs official flight inquiry system reported six flight cancellations. Routes to Skardu were among the most affected, with PIAβs PK-451 and PK-452, as well as AirSialβs PF-121 from Karachi, all being cancelled for the day. All flights to Skardu were suspended due to poor visibility.
In total, over 15 flightsβboth domestic and internationalβfaced extended delays, with some lasting several hours.
PIAβs PK-751 to Jeddah was delayed by two hours. Serene Airβs AR-810, originally scheduled to depart for Jeddah at 8:00 AM, faced a delay of more than 12 hours due to the late arrival of the incoming aircraft. AirSialβs PF-746 to Dammam was delayed by over seven hours and is now expected to depart at 3:00 PM.
FlyDubai’s incoming flight from Dubai is running seven hours behind schedule. Fly Jinnahβs service from Riyadh was delayed by over six hours, while Serene Airβs flight from Jeddah was held back due to weather-related issues.
Other affected flights included PIAβs PK-144 from Al Ain, which was delayed by five hours. AirSialβs Riyadh-bound flight also faced clearance issues and is now expected to arrive by 2:00 PM. PIAβs PK-300 from Karachi to Islamabad experienced a delay of two hours.
Travelers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updated flight information and allow extra time for their journeys due to ongoing weather-related disruptions.
