The federal government has announced the temporary suspension of 3G and 4G mobile internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to security concerns linked to a planned protest march.
Government Directive Issued
According to official sources, the Ministry of Interior directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take immediate steps to suspend mobile data services in both cities. The decision was approved by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, depending on the overall security situation.
Coordination with Law Enforcement
The PTA has been instructed to coordinate with the Chief Commissioners and Inspectors General of both Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure smooth implementation of the directive. The authority is also working closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain communication and prevent any disruption in essential services.
Security Measures in Place
In preparation for the demonstration, security has been tightened across the twin cities. Containers have been positioned at key entry and exit points, while traffic management plans and diversion routes have been developed to minimize inconvenience to the public.
Public Advisory
Authorities have urged citizens to stay informed through official updates and avoid unnecessary travel in areas expected to experience road closures. The government has emphasized that the temporary suspension is a preventive measure aimed at ensuring peace and maintaining public safety.
