UHS Introduces New Eligibility Criteria for PhD Students
LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has announced revised eligibility requirements for PhD scholars, introducing new academic standards aimed at strengthening research quality and postgraduate education.
The decision was approved during the 227th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB), chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore.
Under the updated policy, PhD students must participate in at least three national conferences or seminars and one international conference or seminar before becoming eligible for the award of their doctoral degree.
New PhD Programs Approved
During the meeting, the board also approved four new competency-based PhD programs in:
- Medical Education
- Nursing
- Oral Biology
- Public Health
The university said these programs are designed to align with modern research practices and evolving healthcare needs.
Updated Academic Programs
The ASRB also approved a revised Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) curriculum and endorsed the Certificate in Comprehensive Family Medicine Practice and Emergency Care (CCFP-EC) program.
The newly approved PhD in Nursing, developed under the NURTURE Framework, focuses on clinical leadership, research, teaching, healthcare policy, and professional ethics. The program includes clinical residency, teaching residency, competency-based training, and life-saving skills workshops.
Meanwhile, the PhD in Public Health has been designed to cover areas such as disease prevention, health promotion, health systems strengthening, implementation science, community-based research, and the application of artificial intelligence in public health.
The PhD in Oral Biology will include advanced subjects such as craniofacial developmental biology, regenerative dentistry, stem cell research, biomaterials, dental forensic sciences, oral microbiology, and oral immunology.
Focus on Research Excellence
According to UHS, the revised policies and newly introduced academic programs are intended to enhance research standards, strengthen professional training, and prepare graduates to address modern healthcare challenges through evidence-based practice and innovation.
