Pentagon Says More Than 600 US Service Members Wounded Since Iran Conflict Began
More than 600 US military service members have been wounded since the conflict with Iran began earlier this year, according to the latest casualty update released by the US Department of Defense.
The figures, updated on July 25, show that 624 personnel have been injured since military operations were launched in February.
Casualty Breakdown
According to the Pentagon:
- 417 injuries have been recorded under Operation Epic Fury.
- 207 injuries are listed under Overseas Operations.
The US and Iran agreed to a ceasefire in April and later signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June. However, reports indicate that military incidents involving both sides have continued in the months that followed.
Casualty Records Updated
The Pentagon recently revised its casualty data, updating the classification of some service members listed in its official records.
According to the updated figures, four military personnel previously included under Operation Epic Fury are now listed under Overseas Operations.
The revised records show:
- Operation Epic Fury: 14 fatalities and 417 wounded personnel.
- Overseas Operations: 4 fatalities and 207 wounded personnel.
Questions Over Data Revisions
The revisions to the casualty records have prompted questions from some observers regarding the reporting process.
Former US Army General Ben Hodges said transparency is important when reporting military casualty information and called for clear communication regarding official updates.
US Representative Thomas Massie also commented on the revised figures, questioning the way the casualty data was categorized.
Pentagon Response
Responding to the changes, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the revisions were the result of temporary data disruptions, indicating that the records had been updated as part of the reporting process.
