Punjab is set to take a major leap toward green public transport, as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the launch of over 1,100 electric buses across the province by December 2025.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure 1,115 electric buses become operational before the end of the year. She also instructed Deputy Commissioners to expedite the setup of charging stations in all major districts to support the initiative.

Uniform Design for Bus Stops Approved

During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz approved a standard design for all bus stops under the new project, highlighting the growing public demand for modern and eco-friendly transport.

She also reviewed the district-wise rollout plan and called for early progress on the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT) Project, which aims to modernize Punjab’s urban mobility system.

Focus on Clean Water and Urban Development

Reviewing the Housing and Urban Development Department, the Chief Minister noted that WASA’s network has expanded from 5 to 19 cities within months. She reaffirmed the goal of reaching 25 districts by year-end to ensure better water management and urban services.

Currently, over 5,000 water filtration plants are operational across Punjab. Maryam Nawaz directed Housing Minister Bilal Yasin to personally inspect the facilities and include them in Deputy Commissioners’ KPIs to ensure safe drinking water reaches every household.
