J.T. Ginn Loses No-Hitter in 9th as Angels Stun Athletics 2-1
J.T. Ginn came within striking distance of a historic no-hitter but saw it slip away in dramatic fashion as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Athletics 2–1 on Monday night in Anaheim.
Ginn carried a no-hitter and a one-run lead into the ninth inning, putting the Athletics on the verge of a rare pitching milestone. However, the game quickly turned after a late surge from the Angels.
Ninth-Inning Collapse Changes the Game
The momentum shifted when Adam Frazier opened the ninth inning with a leadoff single, breaking up the no-hit bid. Moments later, Zach Neto delivered a two-run home run that gave the Angels a comeback victory.
The loss ended a strong outing for Ginn, who had dominated through eight-plus innings before conceding back-to-back hits in the final frame.
Ginn Reacts to Tough Finish
After the game, Ginn acknowledged the disappointment but emphasized his approach of attacking hitters and trusting his pitching style, even in high-pressure situations.
He had been aiming to record the first MLB no-hitter since a combined effort by the Chicago Cubs in 2024, while also becoming one of the few pitchers in recent seasons to complete a solo no-hit performance.
Angels End Losing Streak
The win was especially significant for the Angels, who snapped a six-game losing streak with the late comeback, while the Athletics were left to reflect on a near-historic performance that ended in heartbreak.
