KP Vehicle Owners Get Relief as Govt Restores Gas Supply to CNG Stations
The federal government has decided to restore the supply of 35 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of natural gas to CNG stations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, providing relief to vehicle owners facing rising fuel costs.
The decision was made after discussions between federal and provincial representatives in Islamabad. According to officials, CNG stations in the province will receive gas from 6am to 6pm starting Thursday.
The development comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a ministerial committee to address the suspension of gas supply to CNG stations in the province.
The meeting was attended by Faisal Karim Kundi, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam, Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah, federal officials, and representatives of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.
Officials said CNG stations in KP require around 40 to 45 mmcfd of gas daily, but the supply had been suspended last month, creating difficulties for transporters and consumers.
Muzzammil Aslam stated that Article 158 of the Constitution gives priority to provinces in the distribution of gas produced within their territory, adding that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the country’s largest gas-producing province.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the decision and said political stakeholders had worked together to resolve the issue affecting residents across the province.
