Met Office Warns of Severe Heatwave During Eid ul Adha Holidays
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a significant rise in temperatures across the country during the upcoming Eid ul Adha holidays, warning of heatwave conditions from May 25 to May 31.
According to the Met Office, a high-pressure system is expected to develop in the upper atmosphere on May 25 and intensify on May 26, leading to widespread hot and dry weather.
The department said temperatures may remain 5°C to 7°C above normal in several regions, with daytime highs expected to reach 42°C to 45°C in cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In southern regions such as Sindh and parts of Balochistan, including areas like Jacobabad and Sibi, temperatures could rise sharply, ranging between 47°C and 50°C, making conditions extremely hot.
Coastal areas, including Karachi, are also expected to experience hot weather, with maximum temperatures likely to remain between 35°C and 38°C.
The Met Office further warned that night temperatures will also remain higher than normal during the forecast period, reducing relief after sunset.
Authorities have advised the public to take precautionary measures during the heatwave, especially during outdoor activities related to Eid celebrations.
