Janet Leung Named Most Outstanding Player as Canada Win WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Prague

Canada’s Janet Leung has been named the Most Outstanding Player of the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Prague after delivering an exceptional all-round performance that helped her team top the tournament and secure qualification for the World Finals 2027.

The 32-year-old shortstop, and Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, impressed throughout the competition with both her batting and defensive contributions.

Strong All-Round Performance

Leung finished the tournament with a .556 batting average, going 10-for-18 at the plate. She reached base in two out of every three appearances and did not strike out during the six-game event.

In addition to her batting form, she also delivered consistent defensive performances, helping Canada maintain stability throughout the tournament.

Her efforts played a key role in Canada finishing first in Group Prague and booking a place in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.

Key Defensive Moment

One of Leung’s standout moments came during the final against Chinese Taipei, where she produced a crucial defensive play in the sixth inning to prevent a potential go-ahead run.

Her quick reaction and infield awareness helped Canada stay in control during a high-pressure situation.

Team Success and Qualification

Canada entered the tournament among the top contenders and lived up to expectations by finishing at the top of the standings after strong performances across all matches.

The team’s victory ensures qualification for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals, scheduled to take place in Australia in 2027.

Focus on Future Goals

Following the win, Leung highlighted the importance of teamwork and collective effort, crediting her teammates for the successful campaign.

Canada will now shift focus to preparing for the World Finals, where they will aim to compete for the championship title after multiple podium finishes in recent international tournaments.

The victory in Prague marks another strong step forward for Canada’s women’s softball program as they continue to build toward future global success.
