Invincibles Post One of the Highest Totals in Women’s Hundred History
Electing to bat, Lauren Winfield-Hill and Meg Lanning gave the Invincibles a dream start, racing to 54-0 in the powerplay. Lanning’s quick-fire 36 off 19 balls paved the way for Alice Capsey, who smashed a 28-ball half-century, keeping the momentum high alongside Paige Scholfield (35 off 20).
The Phoenix bowlers struggled to contain the attack, with only Hannah Baker (2-24) able to limit the damage. The Invincibles’ 174-5 was the third-highest total in Women’s Hundred history and the second-highest score in this season’s tournament across both men’s and women’s matches.
Phoenix Fight Back Falls Short
Chasing 175, Georgia Voll got Phoenix off to a bright start, but the experienced Marizanne Kapp and Amanda-Jade Wellington slowed the scoring. Captain Ellyse Perry looked dangerous with 29 off 16 balls before falling to a sharp catch by Winfield-Hill off Wellington’s bowling.
Ailsa Lister provided late resistance with an unbeaten 33 from just 18 balls, striking four boundaries and a six, but Phoenix ultimately closed on 152-6, falling short by 22 runs.
Player of the Match – Alice Capsey
“It’s nice to get a win on the board after two close losses,” Capsey said. “The openers set the tone, which made my job easier. We bat deep, so we can take more calculated risks. This win gives us great confidence heading back to the Oval.”
With this victory, the Oval Invincibles regain momentum in the competition, while Birmingham Phoenix will need to regroup quickly to stay in the playoff race.
