Australia to Host WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027 in Queensland
Australia has officially secured hosting rights for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027, with the global event set to take place in Redcliffe, Queensland from 5–11 April 2027. The tournament will bring the world’s top eight teams together for a landmark competition that will serve as a major lead-up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Historic Announcement
The announcement was made in Redcliffe by WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, who was joined by representatives from the Australian Government, Queensland Government, City of Moreton Bay, and Softball Australia CEO Sarah Loh.
“This is a significant moment for softball in Australia and worldwide,” Fraccari said. “The Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027 will not only showcase the best talent but also play a crucial role on the road to LA 2028.”
A Return to Australia’s Softball Roots
Softball has deep roots in Australia, with the first-ever Women’s Softball World Championship held in Melbourne in 1965. That event was one of the earliest global tournaments for women’s team sports and a turning point for gender equity in international competition.
Now, more than six decades later, the World Cup Finals return to Australian soil for the first time since that historic tournament. The event will be broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide, cementing its place as a key fixture in the international softball calendar.
Australia’s Strong Olympic Legacy
Softball debuted at the Olympic Games in 1996, and since then, Australia has won medals in four of the five Olympic editions where the sport was featured. The 2027 World Cup Finals will give the national team and other contenders a chance to sharpen their skills ahead of LA 2028.
Government and Community Backing
The event is being co-funded by the Australian Government, Queensland Government, and City of Moreton Bay, with additional support from Tourism and Events Queensland and Sport and Recreation Queensland. Hosting rights also guarantee Queensland a series of national championships leading into the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Clubs, state associations, and hundreds of volunteers will play a key role in delivering the tournament. Combined with Softball Australia’s “We Love Softball, So Will You” grassroots campaign, the World Cup Finals are expected to inspire a new generation of players and boost the sport’s profile nationwide.
