Campbell Hatton Pays Emotional Tribute After Ricky Hatton’s Passing

Manchester – September 2025

The boxing world is mourning the loss of Ricky Hatton, the former world champion, who was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday at the age of 46. Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

In his first public statement, Ricky’s son Campbell Hatton shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, along with family photographs.

“Heartbroken isn’t the word. Everyone always said I was your double – never a truer word said. I looked up to you in every aspect of life. I can’t explain how much I’ll miss the laughs and all the good times, which I’ll remember forever. Just can’t believe we won’t have any more. Love you, Dad.”

A Legendary Career

Ricky Hatton, affectionately nicknamed “The Hitman”, was one of Britain’s most celebrated boxers. Over a 15-year professional career, he won 45 of his 48 bouts, becoming a world champion at both light-welterweight and welterweight.

Hatton became a fan favorite not only for his fighting style but also for his charisma outside the ring. His 2007 title clash against Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas famously drew around 30,000 traveling British fans.

Although he retired in 2012, he had recently spoken of plans for a comeback later this year.

Family and Legacy

Campbell Hatton, who followed in his father’s footsteps with 14 professional wins, retired earlier this year.

In a statement, the Hatton family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support:

“He had a heart as big as his smile, and his kindness, humour, and loyalty touched everyone who was lucky enough to know him.”

Ricky Hatton will be remembered as a true people’s champion whose impact on the sport — and his fans — will endure for generations.
