22 Areas in Multan Partially Affected by Chenab Floodwaters
MULTAN: Rising water levels in the Chenab River have partially inundated 22 mouzas (revenue estates) in Punjab’s Multan district, affecting several riverine communities and causing damage to agricultural land, according to local authorities.
The latest flood situation report issued by the district administration states that Multan has 545 mouzas, of which 138 are considered flood-prone. Currently, 22 mouzas have been partially affected by floodwaters, with water levels reaching approximately 3 to 4 feet in some locations.
The affected areas include:
- 4 mouzas in Multan Saddar
- 7 mouzas in Shujaabad
- 11 mouzas in Jalalpur Pirwala
Residents in low-lying areas have moved to safer locations along with their livestock as floodwaters entered nearby settlements. Standing crops, including cotton, fodder, and other seasonal produce, have also been affected, raising concerns among local farmers.
Authorities Monitoring the Situation
The district administration said no mouza has been classified as severely affected, and no large-scale evacuation order has been issued. Officials added that water levels in the Chenab River have started to recede, while monitoring continues across the district.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Faisal Saleem said the flood flow in the Chenab has decreased to around 110,000 cusecs, but authorities remain on alert until the river returns to normal levels.
He noted that only limited flooding had been reported in a few riverine settlements and advised residents living near the river to stay informed through official government updates and follow safety instructions.

Local officials are continuing to assess the situation and monitor vulnerable areas to ensure timely response if water levels change. Citizens have also been urged to avoid relying on unverified information and to follow official advisories regarding weather and flood conditions.
