Rawalpindi Waste Management Launches Large-Scale Eid al-Adha Cleanliness Operation

Rawalpindi Waste Management Launches Large-Scale Eid al-Adha Cleanliness Operation

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has finalized a comprehensive cleanliness plan for Eid al-Adha, deploying more than 6,300 sanitation workers and over 1,000 vehicles to manage waste collection across the city during the three-day holiday from May 27 to May 29.

Speaking at a press conference, RWMC Managing Director Rana Sajid said the operation will continue around the clock in all 164 union councils of Rawalpindi. He added that activities will be monitored through CCTV cameras to ensure timely waste disposal and smooth operations.

According to RWMC, the company expects to collect more than 11,000 tons of waste during Eid, including a large quantity of animal remains. Authorities will also distribute over 376,000 waste bags among residents to help maintain cleanliness in neighborhoods.

To facilitate proper disposal, 38 collective slaughter sites have been established with dedicated staff and vehicles assigned for waste management. Special disinfectants and cleaning materials, including phenyl and rose water, will also be used during the Eid holidays to maintain hygiene standards.

RWMC has activated its 1139 helpline to address public complaints, with officials aiming to resolve issues within 30 minutes to two hours. A central control room staffed by 20 officials will remain operational 24/7 throughout the Eid period.

Special arrangements have also been made for cattle markets, transfer stations, mosques, Eidgahs, and graveyards across the city to ensure uninterrupted cleanliness services.

The RWMC chief acknowledged that many vehicles in the current fleet have exceeded their operational lifespan, while a request for new machinery is pending approval from the Punjab government. However, the company has added 40 Shahzore mini-trucks to help maintain smooth operations during Eid al-Adha.

Officials said the Eid cleanliness campaign will continue without interruption, supported by ongoing monitoring and public awareness efforts across Rawalpindi.
