Cattle Markets Across KP See Heavy Rush Ahead of Eid ul Adha
Cattle markets across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed strong business activity on Sunday as citizens rushed to purchase sacrificial animals ahead of Eid ul Adha.
Major livestock markets in Peshawar remained crowded throughout the day, with buyers and traders arriving from different districts of the province.
One of the busiest cattle markets on Ring Road near the city slaughterhouse experienced heavy traffic congestion due to the large number of visitors and transport vehicles. Police officials remained present to manage traffic flow in the area.
Buyers Raise Concerns Over Market Charges
Several buyers complained about additional charges imposed at livestock markets. According to visitors, fees ranging from Rs1,500 to Rs2,000 were being collected on animal purchases at some locations.
Other major livestock markets in Sarband, Palosai, Kohat Road, Charsadda Road, Warsak Road, and GT Road also recorded large crowds and brisk trading activity.
Kala Mandi on GT Road, considered one of the largest cattle markets in the province, attracted livestock traders from multiple districts including Chitral. The market remained packed with buyers looking for cows, bulls, buffaloes, goats, and sheep.
Animal Prices Remain High This Eid Season
Despite active business, many citizens expressed concern over rising animal prices this year.
According to traders:
- Buffaloes are being sold between Rs400,000 and Rs600,000
- Cows and bulls are priced from Rs300,000 to Rs400,000
- Goats are available between Rs50,000 and Rs100,000
- Sheep prices range from Rs100,000 to Rs200,000
A goat reportedly priced at Rs400,000 became a major attraction at one market, drawing large crowds of visitors.
Demand for Local Breeds Increases
Residents in different parts of Malakand division, including Chakdara, Mingora, and Matta, said many buyers preferred locally bred animals this year due to comparatively lower transportation costs.
Locally popular breeds such as Achai cows and Azikheli buffaloes remained in high demand among customers.
Meanwhile, some traders in Charsadda reported slower sales compared to previous years, saying inflation and reduced purchasing power had affected customer spending during the Eid season.
