The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has carried out a large-scale enforcement operation in Lahore against food adulteration and unsafe food practices, confiscating and destroying thousands of kilograms of hazardous food materials.
According to officials, the operation was conducted across several areas of the city, including Sundar Estate, Shahdara, Tollinton Market, and Mondiali Stop.
Large Quantity of Unsafe Food Seized
During the crackdown, the authority recovered and disposed of approximately:
- 18,000 kilograms of animal fat and offal
- 600 liters of prepared oil
- 3,000 kilograms of dead chickens
Officials said the seized items were found in conditions that posed serious health risks and were not fit for human consumption.
Action Against Violations
The enforcement drive was carried out on the instructions of PFA Director General Syed Musa Raza.
Authorities registered one case and arrested three individuals involved in violations of food safety regulations. In addition, a water plant and a food production unit were sealed due to serious hygiene breaches.
Fines and Compliance Checks
Officials also imposed fines totaling Rs. 352,000 on 19 food outlets for failing to comply with food safety standards.
Inspectors reported that several businesses were operating without mandatory chemical testing records, raising concerns about the production and sale of unsafe food products in the market.
Continued Crackdown on Food Safety Violations
The PFA stated that strict action will continue against those involved in producing or selling substandard and unsafe food items. The authority emphasized its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations across Punjab.
