PHF Signs Private Sector Deals to Revive Pakistan Hockey
The Pakistan Hockey Federation has taken a major step toward reviving the country’s national sport by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with two private companies, Alaska Batteries and Sky 47.
The signing ceremony was held at the Amir Khan Boxing Gymnasium and attended by PHF President and IPC Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, along with representatives from the corporate sector, former Olympians, sports officials, and players.
Officials said the agreements are aimed at strengthening financial support for hockey development and improving training facilities for athletes across the country.
Speaking at the event, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said the revival of hockey in Pakistan requires long-term and consistent efforts. He added that the federation plans to introduce hockey in around 1,000 schools nationwide to identify and develop young talent, including boys and girls aged 10 to 12.
He emphasized that corporate partnerships will play an important role in improving sports infrastructure, adding that sponsorship funds will be directed toward player welfare, training programs, and international-standard preparations.
Federal Minister Aurangzeb Khichi praised the initiative and expressed optimism that Pakistan could regain its position in international hockey through proper investment and talent development.
Representatives from both companies reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the sport and providing opportunities for young players to grow at competitive levels.
Former Olympian Tauqeer Dar and former cricketer Rashid Latif also welcomed the move, calling it a positive step toward restoring Pakistan hockey’s past success.
