Heatwave in Lahore Causes Rise in Illnesses Among Sacrificial Animals
The ongoing heatwave in Lahore has led to an increase in illnesses among sacrificial animals ahead of Eid ul Adha, with veterinary experts urging citizens to take better care of livestock during extreme temperatures.
According to officials, nearly 3,500 animals suffering from various health problems have been brought to a government veterinary hospital over the past two weeks.
Hundreds of Animals Reaching Hospitals Daily
Hospital authorities said around 250 small and large animals are being brought daily to the emergency unit for treatment.
Veterinary doctors reported that many animals are showing symptoms such as:
- Fever
- Cough and cold
- Flu
- Diarrhea
- Weakness
- Tick infestations
Citizens said several sacrificial animals became sick suddenly due to the extreme heat and changing conditions.
Experts Advise Proper Animal Care
Veterinary experts said overcrowded conditions and keeping healthy animals alongside sick livestock are contributing to the spread of diseases.
They also warned citizens against feeding animals unsuitable foods such as burgers, pizza, bread, and watermelon instead of proper fodder and animal feed.
Experts advised buyers to carefully inspect animals before purchase, especially checking for ticks around the ears and body.
Hospital management said free treatment facilities, medicines, and ambulance services for animals are available around the clock to help livestock owners during the Eid season.
